The New England Basketball Hall Of Fame To Hold Major 2024 Induction/Reunion
The New England Basketball Hall Of Fame is widely known for hosting some of the largest sports dinners in America. Plans are now underway for a major 2024 gathering. Among the features of the event will be the recognition of certain New England communities that have played a key role in the rich New England Basketball culture. One such community is North County Massachusetts, including the towns of Fitchburg and Leominister.
Recent Event
On January 13, the New England Basketball Hall Of Fame held a special awards ceremony in recognition of the North County Basketball culture. 16 North County Basketball stalwarts were presented with New England Basketball Hall Of Fame gold medals by founder Dan Doyle. The evening also included the presentation of an MVP trophy to a member of each of the four teams competing in the annual “North County Rivalry Night”, the Fitchburg High Boys and Girls Teams, and the Leominister High Boys and Girls Teams.
North County will be among the communities recognized at next year’s gala. One of many reasons dates back to 1926, when the Fitchburg High Boys Basketball Team won the national championship in a 32 team competition in Chicago!
A Thanks To Jim Nelson
New England Basketball Hall Of Famer Jim Nelson, Athletic Director Emeritus at Suffolk University and distinguished Sports Historian, shared with “The Basketball Bugle” the following remarkable article which appeared in the 1926 Converse yearbook about the Fitchburg High Championship. (Note the style of writing!)
Future posts on “The Basketball Bugle” will provide details of next year’s event.
