National Sportsmanship Day (NSD) was launched in 1991. Since the inception of the program tens of thousands of students, parents, coaches, and others from the United States and abroad have participated in celebrating the importance of sportsmanship.

The New England Basketball Hall of Fame (NEBHOF) has been a proud longtime supporter for the celebration of NSD. For this year’s celebration, and in honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, NEBHOF recommends that educators, parents and other group leaders, lead a discussion on the positive impact that the millions of female athletes, coaches and administrators have had on the practice of good sportsmanship.

Please consider organizing such a worthy discussion, either on March 1st or at some time in 2022.

A Special Feature Article!!

Title IX, Posited by Senator Birch Bayh and Congresswoman Patsy Mink, and passed into law in 1972 demanded equal sports participation rights for girls and women. In recognition of the 50th anniversary of Title IX the New England Basketball Hall of Fame will induct an individual who would have ascended to the highest level of women’s basketball had she been given the chance.

But the law came a decade too late for the admirable Cathie Chasse.

Tim Connolly, former highly respected journalist for the Worcester Telegram, is developing a “Bugle” article on Cathie, including detailing her amazing play and her forthcoming induction.
